Day 1 - From Ten Lakes TH to Grant Lake TH
First day of hiking. Distributed bear canisters and commissary at Hodgdon Meadow campground site. 12 persons, 12 canisters, fuel canisters, 3 stoves, tarp, group water filtering system, hand washing system and more.
3 vehicles left at May Lake Trailhead. There is a road from Tiago Road to this parking lot. Fortunately we found spots for three cars. My CRV and two other cars were left at the trailhead. Maricel drove drivers back to Ten Lakes Trailhead parking lot which is just across Ten Lakes th. Others are parked at Ten Lakes Trailhead. My leftover food is at a bear box there as well.
We started hiking from ten lakes th. I was leading first and early on I started to struggle. My backpack was heavy. Eventually Jeannie started to lead. After the meadow, there is a 600 ft elevation gain in less than a mile. At the top, there is a junction. From there, we took the trail to Grant Lakes. 1.3 miles. Found a nice camping site.
