This is the Conturines.Lavarella Group Tour. It's a fantastic trip, with many breathtaking views and with some resting and food services. It is actually 26 km (Gaia stopped recording a few strides away from the car, but it's ok). I have some warnings to give you though (and some suggestions). 1)You should be in good physical condition since it's a long trip(do not take my moving time as standard: i started very late in the morning and had to rush quite a bit in the first third of the trip to catch up and be back home in time) 2)Bring with you enough water (in the refuges they sell it, anyway). The ideal should be 3 liters per person. There is a source of water at 2480 mt.very close to the path number 12 (just below Forcella Medesc on the Fanes side of it), but i'm not sure it's drinkable (it could be: there are no pastures above, only rocks and ravines: in any case you can bring purifiyng tablets and solve the issue). But: a)It's icy cold (as it should be) and b) You cannot be sure to find it pouring enough (since it depends on the snow and rain fallen during winter and spring) 3)The path n. 12 is not in good condition downhill Forcella (saddle) Medesc towards La Villa. You absolutely should avoid it if you don't have a good pair of boots with a good grip or a firm and stable stride (or both). It is very steep so also being prone to vertigo is a no-no. 4)Keep a close look to the weather forecast (i know this is trivial), weather can change very fast there. Path n. 12 from La Varella Refuge towards Forcella Medesc is signed well enough for a sunny day, but you can easily lose the way if the weather is cloudy or misty (at 2300 mts it can be almost the same talking about visibiity). Be aware this is SERIOUS, people are known to have died out of hypothermia having lost the path and wandered to exaustion in the nearby (it's a confusing landscape full of rocks, blind valleys, ravines and small hills, plus the path has a few stretches over rocky ground so you have to follow the little stone pillars to keep on it: and you have to be able to see them). 5)Did i mention it? Bring enough food for the whole day, with a bit of surplus. Bring a whole change to keep warm. Bring a waterproof and wind proof jacket and a pile sweater. A beanie and everything you think you could need if the weather rushes towards cold, rainy or snow. 6)Do not expect to have mobile signal for most of the journey. Have a map with you (A old magnetic compass is also a good idea). Tabacco publishers issue a nice 1:25.000 set (n. 07 is the right one). They tend to underextimate the difficulties of the trails though, so be aware of this. 7)Lastly: if you have joint problems (to the knees especially) take in serious consideration to wear knee tutors (or to skip the Medesc part and make only a part of the trip) So take care, be safe and enjoy it! PS I forgot: it's better to start quite early in the morning. I started at 10.16. Too much late! 8.00 am (or even 7.30) should be better. Do not do as i do: do as i suggest! :-D
