SD_Mickelson-Edgemont to Hill City
Sieders and Kellison rode south to north (uphill). Great weather for riding. Cloud cover most of the day. Beautiful Canyon (Sheep Canyon) between Minnekahta TH and Edgemont which might have been missed going the opposite direction (mile 10ish?). There was a stretch between Pringle and Custer that was along the road- noisey and felt long. Steve was able to get a Coke at the bar in Pringle (~1/2 way). Stopped at Bakers Bakery for lunch (2:30) in Custer. Hit the spot sharing a Turkey croissant. Best plan was our stop at Best Beer Garden with lovely outdoor seating and friendly staff about 1 mile from the Best Western Golden Spike we stayed in.
Ate dinner at Chute Rooster near BW-good choice (Salmon salad, bbq pork sandwich). BW was nice plus they held our luggage for 2 nights.
Stayed at Travelodge in Edgemont. Small rooms, no breakfast, clean and friendly. Our bathroom was larger for being a Wyndham member. Sieders bought breakfast at gas station. There is a steakhouse in town- no one was in it.
We met Sieders in Deadwood, moved gear to their car. Parked ours in Ramp Parking Garage ($10/day). Celebrity Hotel was able to pay for additional days. Otherwise parking at Mickelson lot (call police to let them know) seemed safe.
Drove to Hill City (road construction) to drop a bag at Best Western. Then drove to Edgemont. Travelodge was fine with us leaving a vehicle there.
Saw a turtle, turkey, Sandhills, deer.
