This was my longest one-day hike to date. The 17.3-mile hike starts where the Rattlesnake Canyon Trail intersects Gibraltar Rd. The route decends Gibraltar Rd. for 1.4 miles to the W. fork of Cold Spring Trail. It then heads up to E. Camino Cielo via the E. fork of Cold Spring Trail. The route then heads east on E. Camino Cielo for .3 miles before turning down San Ysidro Trail for 4 miles. It then across the mountains via the Buena Vista Trail and the Edison Catway. The route then heads up again on the Romero Canyon Trail to the crest and down the back side .5 miles to Romero Camuesa Rd. (the dirt road continuation of E. Camino Cielo. This all-day route requires a second car to be left at the end of the trail or a pick-up and drop-off.
