An incredible loop hike to mark our first overnight backpacking trip! No more car-camping for us! Well, I shouldn't say that because that's awful fun too! But, this was very exhilarating to say the least. We really enjoyed the second day hike (From Shale Lake down to Hank's Lake and then down to Pamelia Lake) due to the incredible vistas and view of Mount Jefferson and lakes below. The shorter route is to head North on the PCT and then down the Pamelia Lake Trail back to the trailhead. But, the views of Mount Jefferson are few and more obscured with trees and such. Carry the mosquito spray and take a dip in the very cool waters of Shale Lake! The bugs do get much better when the sun goes down and the cooler air sets in. Be sure to get your Limited pass to stay here overnight- only 20 passes issued per day at: http://www.recreation.gov/permits/Pamelia_Limited_Entry_Area/r/wildernessAreaDetails.do?contractCode=NRSO&parkId=111433 Enjoy the Hike!!
