GPS on my other app says 9.3 miles round trip (so once again EveryTrail screwed up the distance).
Found this on Everytrail... Most people haven't heard about this one, which is strange, because it's right along the I-90 corridor. Sounded great so we figured we'd give it a shot.
Almost NOBODY on this trail, which was great! On the advice in here, we parked before the yellow gate (although it says they close it at 5:30pm and it was still open when we finished at 6).
Apparently, it's easy to miss the "Trailhead" (a concrete block with a red ribbon), but we found it quite easily. The 3 other people we met on the trail had all missed it.
Starts out with a nice warm up slope until you hit the Y for the balcony (turn Right for the Balcony, or Left for the Peak).
Lots of rocks and stream uses the trail, so wear waterproof boots. Things start to get pretty steep after the first switchback.
The trail gets REALLY overgrown, to the point where you feel like bushwhacking in several places. Just keeps on getting steeper and steeper - we're in pretty good shape (and hike a LOT) and our legs were done by the summit.
A pretty cool view from the top... not for the heights-sensitive, and there's not a lot of room (good thing there was nobody else up there). Definitely room for 2 to sit and enjoy lunch before heading back down.
We weren't really a big fan of this one, because we like running down... and the loose rock made it pretty tough. Only able to "run" maybe 1/2 of the trail down.
