Start at either the mouth of Butterfield Canyon in Harriman, or the Oquirrah Hills Golf course at the mouth of Middle Canyon in Tooele. Middle canyon has a tool booth and gate at the bottom, and a gate at the top that is closed from 9p-7a.
Middle Canyon is paved most of the way to the top, Butterfield Canyon is paved all the way to the top. Any passenger car can make it over the top from either side and nearly any passenger car can make it from the top of the canyon to the Bingham Mine Overlook (you might not want to take your minivan or honda civic to the overlook, but anything else would be just fine).
Middle Canyon has lots of picnic tables and fire pits under the trees, and bathrooms in several places too.
Butterfield Canyon would be a great street bike ride, except it's so narrow and twisty that all the corners are blind so you couldn't go fast enough to have it be fun without running a major risk of hitting oncoming traffic. In addition, there are quite a few places where there was rocks and gravel on the pavement.
