NOT a fall color hike as the fall color peters out after 0.2 miles. Good summer rainy day hike!
Only 185’ gain in first 0.5 miles. Lots of roots and fair stretch where you are walking on slab rocks. About 2-miles from TH, you encounter nice fall color with maples. No views until you reach the fire tower. On this day, heavy clouds which spoiled the pretty 360-degree views. Fire tower was welcomed site as wind was blowing pretty hard at top. Overall, a very nice fall color hike!
900’ of climbing in first 1-mile to reach point where trail gently descends to lake at 1.2 miles. Not a great hike on a cloudy day as the background mountains at the lake are shrouded in clouds taking away from the ambiance of the lake. Loop around lake uneventful as trail is muddy with boardwalks/logs keeping this from being a muddy slog. As a fall color hike, I’d give this a 5 on a scale of 10, you can do better!
First 0.75 miles has nice fall color and beautiful waterfall. Next mile less interesting. Steady climb to overlook with beautiful wide open view of valley south.
