Nice hike. Mostly cool weather. Was a little hot climbing out of Elk Cove to the north side of the Mtn. But a marine layer rolled in and the hike along Vista Ridge was nice and cool. Even made it back in time for ice cream.
Indian Racetrack & Red Mtn
Climbed to Red Mtn. Very foggy with low visibility. Folks still wanted to go up. Final climb wasn’t bad at all. Group was slow on descent. Jim was very slow on both directions because he insisted on holding long conversations and walking slower while doing so. He also insisted on stopping for long periods to take pictures. He’s becoming a real pain in the ass.
If group wants to go slow, fine. But I never really know what they want.
Nice hike. Hot on the return in the afternoon with radiation from the stones. Rocky surfaces made it harder. The group seemed to like it though. Visited several lakes, including Timber Lake, which was nice and easy to get to. Road bad as always and made the drive long. Lots of mosquitoes at Upper Lake, but none at Timber Lake. Wait a year before going up there again. It was a three hour drive each way.
Not sure about Park Ridge. That might be at least 3 1/2 hours each way!
