Tried the high route between Tinker and Shirley with Jeff. It was easy going along the ridge from Tinker until Billy’s Peak. While it looked as though we might be forced to leave the ridge top before Billy’s, we were able to stay high until we were traversing the west side of the peak. Then the loose footing made it more dangerous to side-hill. Jeff had one bad slip on loose dirt/rocks. After Billy’s, it appeared that we had only easy ridge running ahead, but the on the very next section of ridge line, we found ourselves cliffed out and had to retreat and drop to the west before regaining the ridge. The next bump in the ridge we chose to side hill around to the east, which was quite steep and loose. It would have been better to go up and over it. The next bump was covered in thin, slippery pieces of shale-like rock. We were able to gain the top and escape off it safely to the west near the southern tip. After that, the going was easy. We finally dropped to the Shirley trail just above and south of Mountain Meadow Lake.
