Water sources: Stream on the way up to the 1st brother, Slide Mtn Brook, Johns Brook, and several other tributaries of the JB during the return descent.
Spectacular, close-up views of the Great Range and Giant Mountain. Fun, flabby climbs up the Brothers, blueberries present along the trail. Views from the second brother are even better. Last pitch up Big Slide is steep, scrambly, and fun. awesome views of the slide a awe inspiring scenery from two tiny look outs just below the summit. Summit felt very crowded because it's quite small.
Descent along Slide Man Brook and JB is simply lovely. Solitude, plenty of water, great hidden little cold tubs, Beautiful Spruce and Fir woods. The water is crystal clear, filtered by moss, and delicious. Southside Trail has been abandoned. Saw a Whitetail deer during during the return.
Get to the Garden early! By 6:30 a.m on the weekends. NO Parking!! Shuttle from Marcy Field, $10, is very convenient and quick. Driver was very nice.
Have Dinner at the Ausable Inn! Love the steak.
All around, our favorite 46er thus far. Found it be pretty on par with Giant in terms of difficulty. Longer for sure. Not quite as steep especially during the beginning. Eases you into the climb a little more.
