San Bernardo to Ophir Rd (1/5/20, 8:19:19AM)
Went with Max and James. Ski track starts essentially at the camp/ground nordic center. The skin track zig zags through (name?) gladed trees. Skin track is medium difficulty with some steep areas. At about 11200, it opens up to an old avalanche path, but the skin path moves into the woods. Skiing this area would be very safe in considerable avalanche conditions. No room for an avy to run until you get up above the lake. At 11,600ft, 90 degree turn, there you could ski down very steep trees. Might cliff out. From the summit we decided to drop in. It was wind loaded, but was the best option. I dropped in and crashed on turn 3 and lost skis above. Took 15 minutes at about hip deep to climb up and retrieve. After first big drop, hit bowl and there another decent. After the second decent it was horrible skiing, little trees all over the place.
