Maggie Gulch and Minnie Gulch are two easy Jeep trails close to Silverton.
Black Bear Pass is one of the best known Jeep trails in the State. It has a reputation for killing people.
Red Mountain Pass is an easy Jeep trail that combines a lot of old mining structures with great alpine scenery.
Porphyry Gulch is a very enjoyable Jeep trail. It is above the trees most of the way and offers nice views of the San Juans.
Brown Mountain is a short, but fun, Jeep trail that can be done in a couple hours. Easy trip up through the trees that ends in the alpine at 12,000'.
Silver Basin is a short Jeep trail that is fun to drive. It ends in an absolutely stunning basin with a small lake surrounded by towering peaks.
The basin itself is not as big as some, but you are up close and personal with it.
Rat Creek is a long ways from any other Jeep trails on the Silverton website, but it is an interesting area. The trail is nice, but the Bachelor Historic Loop is the real highlight of the area. Fabulous!
Carson was established in 1881 with the discovery of silver and gold and abandoned in 1902.
The ghost town is now privately owned and has been "stabilized" by putting metal roofing on the buildings to help with snow and rot.
American Basin is a puny little Jeep trail - less than a mile long. It would not rate having a page by itself except it has FANTASTIC WILDFLOWERS in July.
