Big Snow & Hardscrabble Dome (8/1/20)
Camped at the saddle between Big Snow and Hardscramble Dome. It was covered in snow, but the outlet stream from the tarn was clear of snow.
On the first day we rode/pushed our bikes up to the trailhead, locked them to a tree and made the hike up to the saddle. We established camp and then watched the sunset from the top of the dome.
In the morning we summited Big Snow and then packed out all the way back to the car.
I used my commuter bike for the road part and it was horrible. The road is pretty rocky, so an actual mountain bike would have made this a hell of a lot more enjoyable.
Big Snow was amazing, but I will not go up from this route again.
Rooster Mountain (7/26/20)
We went up the winter route in the summer time. I do not recommend as we were swimming in huckleberry up to our necks for most of it. Stay left at the fork and you will enjoy a lovely trimmed boot path to the summit.
Lake Michael and Goat Mountain (7/19/20)
The hike to Lake Michael is straight forward. The summit of Goat Mountain is not so much. When looking at this GPS track there are two things I want to point out.
1. When you approach, it's easier to go up the left side of the rock gully along the trees. This is the route we took on the descent and it was much easier than side-hilling approach along the ridge.
2. Final approach to gain the ridge is tricky. If you go all the way to the top of the ridge you will be in the class 4 climbing area. This is the route I took on the ascent. However, on the descent I found a path along the rock face about 30ft below. This was all simple class 3. Once you are on the dirt portion of the ridge, it's all class 2.
Also, I have drawn in our routes on the photos for reference. Hope this helps!
Tonga Ridge and Mt Sawyer (7/11/20)
Kachess Ridge and French Cabin West Peak (7/4/20)
If you want to make this shorter, drive up from the Kachess Lake Forest Road 4818 and park practically on the ridge. I've marked the spot with a parking way point. Also, you will notice we bailed from the ridge as we got to a knife edge that had some class four climbing with exposure on both sides. So we bailed down through the trees.
Red Mountain, East Approach (7/3/20)
Sorcery Mountain (6/29/20)
Thorp and Hard Knox (6/22/20)
Thomas, Para and Baldy (5/31/20)
