Rude mountain bikers ruined this trail for me. The scenery is gorgeous but we kept being startled by mountain bikers passing us (and many other hikers) at significant speeds & with no warning. One went by me (from behind) fast, with no warning & within two inches of my body. If I had turned at that moment to look at one of the gorgeous formations, he would have smashed into me & the injuries would have been significant. I mountain biked for decades but I always warned people
By saying something simple like “passing on the left”. I won’t hike this trail again.

Love Palo Duro. The big 9-ish mile loop to the lighthouse and around the running trail is always a highlight. Several areas are great for mountain biking and geocaching too. Puppy loves it too.

One of the most kick your ass routes on a MTB out here in the canyon. Lower Comanche heading north is a double black when climbing. “Enjoy”

Mostly flat and easy. Beautiful views and interesting geology all around. At the 2.7 mile mark you have to make some decisions. Head back or on to the peak. If y.or choose the peak you have to choose right or left. We went up on the right then headed on to the lighthouse. You can get up to the flat area between the peaks but it can be a difficult. Up and down. Worth it if you so choose. Down on the right, left from the bottom, you may well spend some butt time. Be safe out there.

Lots of great views on A mostly easy hike. The end Loop up to the top is a little tricky. We took what is called the “easy”way up and the hard way down. You may do a little bit of crawling.

Took this one up to the top at the fortress cliff trail. Was a nice quiet hike. Much fewer people than lighthouse. Enjoyed the geocaches on the trail.

A great hike. Rocks, switchbacks, dirt, trees, and miles. Nice in mid-November temps. Many geocaches en route and along the top.

I suggest making it a loop with the GSL trail. Not really any harder, though a little (2 mil) longer. Different sites on the way home with less traffic on that section

I’m not sure I would’ve called a “difficult” after some of Caprock’s … maybe one small section near the lighthouse.
Still though - a great hike, better in the winter, and definitely make the loop with GSL.
