Awesome snow and some untouched areas in the trees. Decent downhill and good for beginners to intermediates.

The snow was alternately nice and crispy+ easy to glide on and supper crappy and gommed up on my skis and skins. Had sun for all 3 hours! Awesome!

This Fay Luther Area is one of my go to hikes. Multiple trails means there’s room for all. The CVTA maintains the trail super well. And today it was protected, as usual, from winds that made hiking difficult elsewhere. Only did 3.5 miles as my companion was recovering from cold and my dog from arthritis flare up.

This is a popular loop for hikers, bikers, and occasionally horses. The 1000 feet of elevation gain is rather gradual up to Dry Pond with several switch backs. The views are nice. Dry Pond is a meadow that is basically, dry. So don’t go for the pond. Go for Thomas and Whites Creeks. They provide beautiful scenery along the lower trails. To make it a loop you do have to hike along Timberline road to connect the two trail heads. Some may choose to do point to point with two cars to avoid the walk along the road.

Wildflowers and butterflies were AMAZING, upper climb not as hard as I thought. The well-used trail never made me nervous with steep drops only on one side until the actual rocky top.

First time using Gaia App and was attempting to do Jobs Peak but ended up at the Jobs Peak Ranch trailhead (on other side of mountain 😆) so did trailhead and continued to Fay-Luther trailhead and did all but a mile of it. What’s not to love about being outdoors in the beautiful sunshine with awesome temperature (70’s).

August 10, went out and back. The trail is very busy, dogs are allowed and hike in all shapes and sizes along with the people. The last leg of the ascent has two or three super windy sections. The wind is strong and icy, it makes it difficult to breathe. Apart from that, the climb is not that hard, the elevation is spread out and there are nice flat segments. The wild flowers are many, the meadows lush, the views in all directions. The parking lot was full at 9 AM, and the cars kept coming.

Great drive with many off shoot roads that could be a potential hike in solitude during the week. Weekends are busy. Crystal Peak Mine is a place to take kids where they can dig for crystals. There is also a dirt road that joins Dog Valley Road at the top before dropping down to Verdi & this road connects to the Reservoir.

This was the wildest single track trail these baby boomers (almost senior citizens) have riden! Amazing ride, technical, some NARROW spots, not for the faint of heart. We made it, take lots of water, start early.

I have often hiked the Jones Creek trail, but only to the summit. Yesterday I completed the Jones/White Creek Loop. I climbed the Jones Creek side then came down Whites Creek. You will pass through Aspen glades, cedar and pine forests. Lots of wild flowers. White Creek is running fast now with the snow melt but is passable crossing the log bridges. I would suggest the use of trekking poles.

June 9, 2019. Nice hike & training climb to the Church Pond Summit Saddle at 8000 ft. There are six switchbacks along a well traveled trail through the forest with enough shade to stop if needed & cool a bit. If you take your dog, the temperature should not be over 60° as they have no way to cool their bodies & creek water is limited. I think the gain is at least 1800 ft & to get ready for some outdoor event it can be used to get a good workout. Some friends of mine who were training for Mt. Shasta would climb it 3 times to try to match the elevation gain on Shasta, which is a lot.

In about a 3 mile loop from the trail head, you climb 800' to a great view of the city, valley, and surrounding mountains. The trail is easy to follow and the main climb is near the middle of the loop as you near the peak.

Nice Springtime hike out of Genoa. I combined parts of the Genoa Trail Loop to the Eagle Ridge Trailhead. Temperature was pleasant and wind was light. Creek crossings were easy except for one and it had an improvised hand rail to assist in crossing the fastest running creek.

Parking is convenient but no restrooms. Beautiful scenery with some very steep sections. Pay attention to the trail markers (rock cairns), as it’s easy to miss a turn in the rocky stretches. My favorite spot for a quick hike.

This is a short hike with a lot of vertical. 3.2 miles and 4000ft straight up. There is no trailhead and you have to park on the south side of 50 and run up the bank on the north side then pick up one of the several use trails going uphill. There are few views going up the canyon until you climb up onto the ridge at mile approx 2.5 and then the views are beautiful. North easterlies of 10-20mph had blown away the smoke from the deadly Camp fire and there was no indication of smoke or fire. The last 250 vertical is all big boulder Class 2, and does not work for dogs. Views on top were great. Big Lake Aloha below looked empty with just a few ponds. I was hoping for a way down there so I could make a one way out to Lake Echo next year but I guess that is not so easy. All told a good workout. Took me and my daughter 5 hours out and back.

This hike offers fine views of South Shore and Lake Tahoe. On the day I hiked it the Fall color was everywhere. There were 3 small streams still running, even late in the season. This appears to be a popular trail; my hike was off-season and mid-week, yet I must have encountered 40 people on my way down. It is also used by mountain bikers.

A late start on Saturday. Ay 11 am the cars were parked way before the TH parking lot. License plates said Missouri, Vermont, Texas, Michigan! The trait was pretty busy, and the summit was CROWDED. This is the most crowded summit I've ever been to. Three weeks ago, on the Freel Peak, it was just me on the summit and on the trail... There are a few windy spots, and the summit was gusty. Good to see many dogs, provided the parents know what they do.Sept 22, all was pretty yellow and dry. On a weekend, it is a social event, solitude is not a tag for this one. Fully enjoyed it!
