Hard but fun and amazing views. Friday almost no people. Saturday, lots of bikers and some hikers. Weather perfect. Expect no water sources. Snow almost all gone so no crapons needed. Some bugs at night. Definitely should be in shape before backpacking this.

Nice tour when there is enough snow. Long and winding road down from Scott’s Lake

I was doing a bit of research preparing to hike to Freel. This route is NOT preferred for two reasons: 1 - it crosses private property, and 2 - the route up the drainage is primitive unmaintained trail with slow going. Also it’s rated “moderate” on Gaia and should definitely be considered “DIFFICULT.” The preferred trail to freel is “Freel Peak via Tahoe Rim Trail” with a trailhead at Horse Meadow which then climbs to Armstrong Pass and meets up with the TRT there. There IS a route to Freel from this Fountain Place Road locked gate trailhead, but it’s via the Armstrong Pass Trail which is much longer than the Horse Meadow TH route. I didn’t do this route, and of course YMMV.

Great hike with very rewarding views. Trail is practically nonexistent once you split from the Scott’s Lake trail

one of my favorite hikes: it has a well defined beautiful trail, first 1/2 mile hard to beat for beauty. passage into the meadow has some incredible views and you can see Tahoe in the distance.
Many options for length of hike. wildflowers fabulous right now, some water crossings over rocks. highly recommended

Very nice hike from Round Lake to Emerald Lake. Easy access from several trailheads: Big Meadow, Christmas Valley and Shnieder Cow Camp.
Easy terrain, rolling ups and downs. Christmas Valley is especially beautiful.

This is one of my favorites in the Tahoe basin. The lake looks like it’s out of a storybook.

I love this section of the Tahoe Rim Trail. This year the section from the border of the granite chief wilderness and the Tahoe Forest down to the peak 2 miles above Barker Pass Road and was very snowy on June 7. I would not have wanted to do it under a time constraint.

Nice challenge for your 4WD! Great views and you get to drive part of the upper Rubicon trial!

This might be the steepest hike I have ever done. 1000 feet elevation gain the first 1.5 miles, then the hard part, another 1000 feet in .5 miles.

This is a awesome hike. I accidentally delete my route going to the peak. So I tracked my route down only.

Didn’t finish the whole trail because a storm was coming in, but it was very beautiful and a perfect hike for the family.

Really nice, relatively easy hike. However, it is quite a bit longer than it tends to be advertised. It was around 11.5 miles out and back according to this app. It’s not hard, but the length does make it more of an intermediate level hike and it about maxed out the dogs. Lunch and the swim in Dardanelles Lake was perfect. Highly recommended!

Challenging but doable single track w/ some rock & roots. Nice ridge line views of Fallen Leaf Lake. Mule Deer descent trail mostly smooth gravel with sights of forest regrow.

Very steep accent and then of course decent. Recommend hiking sticks. Highly recommend hike because the view is outstanding. A bit of a scramble at the top.

One of my favorite hikes lately. Not to hard, a lot of big trees (Sugar Pines, Jeffery Pines, and Cedar trees), a creek, and a beautiful pond. I only say 3 people. It is probably busy when the campground is open.

Its not too hard there is a skin track that makes it a lot easier but you can also just walk up the ridge. The skiing is amazing and there is always at least some good snow.

Good workout with great views. Did this in early July. Bears with cubs and mosquitoes around melting snow. Well worth it!

A late start on Saturday. Ay 11 am the cars were parked way before the TH parking lot. License plates said Missouri, Vermont, Texas, Michigan! The trait was pretty busy, and the summit was CROWDED. This is the most crowded summit I've ever been to. Three weeks ago, on the Freel Peak, it was just me on the summit and on the trail... There are a few windy spots, and the summit was gusty. Good to see many dogs, provided the parents know what they do.Sept 22, all was pretty yellow and dry. On a weekend, it is a social event, solitude is not a tag for this one. Fully enjoyed it!
