Nice hike along the abandoned railroad line. Apparently not closed, as there is no signage to that effect.

Great bike adventure. Some brush to contend with in July and August.

There were a few rock gardens...needed to winch ourselves up and out twice.

This was a great day on the trails. Pushed my stock ‘21 rubicon to the limit

We took the counter-clockwise route, starting at the Elk Mountain Campground and summiting Elk Mountain first. The route up to Elk Mountain is pretty tough, but then levels out after you descend on the route to Kings Mountain. At the time of writing, the soil was pretty loose in parts on the way to Kings Mountain. As others have noted, pack a lot of water, as only one of the creeks on the way back to our starting point was flowing to filter water. It took us about 5 1/2 hours at a moderate pace.

Can be a really hard hike. Bring poles. Even when the ground is dry, it is steep and you can slip on the dry, ball-bearing rocks. There are a couple ropes to help with the up or down. I would not recommend this hike for kids, dogs or if it is raining.

Brutal up that you just need to grind out. The views and flowers are nice in the spring.

Log Jam (45) is a beautiful and mildly challenging trail that climbs up and over some steep terrain. Generally well maintained it varies from 12-24” wide and offers some stunning single track and a few epic views. Bales Point (30) is an insanely steep, loose and difficult expert trail and you need to be on your game. It’s one way downhill and sections can be as steep as 50-60 degrees so mistakes are... long lasting.

With Leslie and MJ, rain and wind. Stayed warm with shells and under layer. Needed full gloves for climb, none on descent. Feet great in liner socks and Trango tech GTX

Good training hike for bigger mountains. A few fairly steep sections that are a workout. Views are good from the top but not spectacular. Glad I had my trekking poles for the little bit of snow and the steep sections coming down.

The area is somewhat confusing with roads, atv roads/tracks and trails. Good hike and nice waterfall but won’t do it again.

Very wet rainy and snow with some icy spots near the summit. Take mice spikes. Beautiful every time!

Excellent conditions on 1.23.21. A few mountain bikers scattered throughout, and some rowdy OHV folks under the Graham Bridge section, but for the most part, it's a real hidden gem given its proximity to the city.

This was a great hike- beautiful forest, a couple waterfalls- hardly any people (except for around University Falls). The main downside was all the ATV & gun noise. Would do this hike again for sure!

First 6 miles or so is great, mostly rolling topography, in viewing/ear distance of the creek. Towards the end the highway is pretty loud and there are some ATV trails.

Trail was dry and in very good condition when hiked on Oct. 4. A difficult hike with the steepest grade above 2500'. Despite the wildfire haze brought in by the winds over the past few days, the views from the summit were still impressive. Not quite a 360 degree view from the summit due to trees.

Beautiful views and hardly saw anyone on the trail. Also the hardest hike I’ve ever done in my life. Check out the elevation profile and be prepared for some intense scrambling. Bring hiking poles.

Difficult due to the amount of elevation gain, not by trail composition. Worthwhile views when getting to top. Would suggest return via wild river loop as the views of this fern forest is beautiful. However, the connection from the Kings mountain summit trail to river Wilson trail is via the kings summit junior tra which is not maintained at all and essentially a plow through the wilderness. Plan for at least three hours for this one.

We did this lower part of Hoodraiser in a stock 3gen TRD off-road tacoma, a stock 2gen Tacoma long bed, and a stock FJ. It was easy for all three vehicles with full tire pressure and amateur drivers (us). There is one part with about 20 feet of deep tire ruts (5-7in deep) about midway up. There's a turn around spot about 50 yards before that part so if you're nervous you can stop there and walk up to check it out. That's the most difficult part everything else you could do In a RAV4. Note: the trail is pretty narrow, if you're going to do it in a full size truck you'll definitely be scraping small branches.
The trail is clearly marked with a sign. There are two parts of Hoodraiser, this is the lower part, the upper part is more of a challenge do to erosion.

Freaking awesome! Hiked to Kings Mt then returned via Kings Mt. JR. The trail to Kings Mt. JR is overgrown.

2.6 miles each way, really steep grades. I recommend trekking poles, especially when there is rain or potentially snow at the top as the way back down can be difficult.I loved this hike and would recommend it to anyone who can handle a more “backcountry” style trail.

Pretty good views once you get up there. Fairly rough trails though - it's a knee-buster. Great for conditioning. Overall it's a good hike with nothing spectacular or poor about it, so 3 stars.

Good riding trails up there! Make sure to put $5 in second mailbox before entering trail system 😏
