Awesome hike with extraordinary views—also VERY challenging, so don’t be deceived by the short distance! Significant stretches require 4 points of bouldering contact, as you’d expect with an elevation gain of 600’ in half a mile.
Descent on the Nature Trail is treacherous, so for an easy way down from the top of Mt Battie, take the Carriage Road, a mile of which is a gentle-grade trail and (if you have a car at the Nature Trail trailhead) a mile on Hwy 52/Mountain Street. The road has wide shoulders and/or sidewalks.
Note also: the sign at the Nature Trail trailhead is tiny, blurry, and has tiny print, so be sure to check your options for the route down before starting up.

This is a great hike and possibly the most rugged hike on the coast where you can get elevation and miles south of Acadia NP. Trails are like Baxter SP in many ways — rocky, rooty steep — loved it!

Good Hike overall, not too hard and has great views. Can get very busy at ocean lookout so be aware of that especially on busy weekends. Trail can also get pretty trafficked as well.

This is a classic that I’ve been doing for years. Very slowly this year but still well worth the effort. Excellent views of the Penobscot Bay!
