Overview

Steep Rock Preserve is a park in Connecticut.

Getting Started

Easy parking at the trailhead leads to trail options on both sides of the Shepaug River. The park has numerous trail combinations on both sides of the river and can be enjoyed as an easy flat river walk or a hilly climb through the woods over various little peaks with a beautiful view from the top of Steep Rock.

Lots of access points along side roads off route 199 and from the town of Washington. Besides the peak there is a neat walking bridge across the river, an old train tunnel through a big hill and ruins of an old lodge. Biking and horseback riding as well.

When to Go

Open year round, but spectacular in fall.
