This trail map starts out on private property, for resort guests only, and then enters Saguaro National Park property before connecting with the Ruiz Trail, with a return by Coyote Wash. This same trail system can also be accessed from the Loma-Alta Trailhead off of South Camino Loma Alta Road. The Ruiz trail was enjoyable, as was the hike along Coyote Wash. However, if you have never hiked a wash just be aware that it’s mostly sand, loose rock with the occasional water hole or small stream. Most of the elevation, on the Ruiz Trail, is on the first half of the trail before it connects with the Hope Camp Trail. The trail is not strenuous, but do pay attention as wildlife also uses this trail and the leave their droppings without any regard for hikers. When reaching the Hope Camp Trail you will go to your left, West, and follow the Hope Camp Trail to the Coyote Wash Trail which will be used for your return. If you decide to turn right at the Hope Camp Trail, you have access to the Arizona Trail (AZT) approximately a mile to the East. Other Saguaro Park trails can also be accessed from AZT system. Pay attention to the cactus, both at head level and calf level, or you may end up with thorns in your legs or pant legs. If you’re walking in groups make sure you leave enough space when you’re passing trees so that the branches have time to spring back before you pass or you could end up with thorns in your chest, face or head. As with all hikes bring plenty of water, especially summer months, and enjoy, as the hillsides of Saguaro Cacti are a sight to behold. As a fun note if you’re in this area on Christmas watch for Cactus Claus.

Nice hike. Well marked. Could jog it if you are confident at cross country. Summertime conditions can be dangerous. Beautiful natural tanks should be running in Spring mostly, but some water in winter.

A little shorter loop than expected but the weather was perfect and the scenery was great as usual. This loop has a number of especially large and impressive saguaros.

This is a great 6nmi early season easy hike (for snowbirds), with only 750' of elevation gain. A bonus is seeing a Crested Saguaro along the trail. I'll post a picture later.

I wanted to know where the Pink Hill was, per the name of the trail, and whether it was pink, and whether you could get there, and whether there was anything to see. Yes, you can get there, yes, the dirt is kind of pink, and yes, it’s a beautiful short hike and a nice view at the end, albeit not spectacular. Recommended for “easy” hikers.

It’s starting to get uncomfortably hot even as late as 5:45 PM. This loop has a little shade but not enough to counter late spring heat. Primarily saguaros, cholla and Palo Verde trees. Still beautiful and interesting. Saguaros are days away from blooming. Actual loop from parking is about 3.4 miles but I continued up Shantz Trail a short distance for sunset photos.

The loop I wanted to take earlier in the week but didn’t have enough time. Beautiful and easy and fun. Only passed ONE person, on a Saturday!

Easy hike but great flora. Good for all abilities IF everyone carries water!

Perfect hike for a rainy day. Minimal mud and great views of the misty Rincons.
