Breakridge & Sugarloaf NY Track (11/12/16, 9:22:02AM)
Not Suitable for beginners, slow hikers, runners, hikers afraid of heights, and dogs are not allowed. Let’s have some more fun by going on another exciting hiking adventure this Sat. up the face of Breakneck. The hike will be about 8 miles long depending on ground conditions. The hike starts with a real fun scramble up the face of Breakneck Ridge, followed by a walk along the ridge, and then we head up over Sugarloaf for some more good views. Hikers that don’t like rock scrambles can use the alternate trail which is a few feet parallel to the main Breakneck Ridge trail and avoids the scrambles, but rejoins the main trail at all the good view spots. This hike won’t be run at a fast pace, but won’t be slow either. It will be at a brisk moderate pace, and we will stop as needed. It could be a demanding hike for some. We will stop a reasonable number of times. If you are looking for a high intensity workout or a slow stroll this is the wrong hike. If you want to run up Breakneck choose another hike. I have no intention of running, and will stop to enjoy the hike. Leader determines the route, mileage, number of stops, and duration of stops. Hiking boots required. Also bring at least 3 quarts of water and your lunch. This is an all day hike that will start at 9:08 and end 5-6 hours later. The planned route is to go up the Face of Breakneck on the Breakneck Ridge trail, and then take the Notch trail to the Wilkerson trail. If it is too windy or if there is significant snow or ice on the ground, we will do another hike in the Hudson Highlands. Trans. 5E, but take the early 7:43 train that arrives at 9:08. Those using Public Transportation take the 7:43 Metro North Trail to Breakneck Ridge. Exit the train from the last car. If you are driving take 9D to the Main Breakneck Ridge parking lot.
