Overview

Is a difficult trail because of the 1,100 ft elevation climb. But is a maintained trail. No scrambling is needed. The views are worth it. There are no bathrooms on the trail, or at the trail head. But you can drive to where the BMX bikes people park (within Bootleg Canyon), on the pavement, before the dirt road starts, there is a bathroom - but this away from the walking paths. This path shares a portion with the BMX trails, and they have a the right of way and they are fast - be aware and respectful.

Getting Started

You can skip the lower 2 miles of trail. And drive up the dirt road (past those bathrooms), and park at a peak, below the satellite dishes. But I suggest a 4x4 vehicle. And parking is VERY tight at the peak. "Fit" people can do this whole 6 mile trail. (3 miles in - all uphill, 3 miles out - all downhill) but I cant. I had a friend drop us off at the top (below the satellite dishes), and we already parked at the bottom. At the paved parking area, marked "River Mountain Trail". So we hiked downhill.

Taking Children

I see families on this, kids are welcome.

Moderate out and back hike. Well trafficked. 100% exposed, no shade.
