Fryingpan Mountain via Frying Pan Tower Road
Overview
This is an easy out and back trail to Fryingpan Mountain off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The trail follows a fire road up to the fire tower, which you're actually able to access. The actual door to the cabin at the top is locked, so you can only go to the top of the steps. It's about 5 flights of stairs up to the top where you'll see 360 degree views of the Blue Ridge mountains, including a view of Looking Glass Rock.
Getting Started
This trail begins at milepost 409.6, though there's no official trailhead or sign. A small dirt shoulder off the side of the road acts as a parking lot and the well-maintained gravel fire road leads up to the fire tower.
Taking Children
This is a short, easy hike for children. Use caution when climbing the fire tower, especially after rain.
