Rainbow Falls Trail
Overview
This is a Strenuous out and back trail in Jones Gap State park.
Getting Started
I have reported on this trail previously. This update includes a suggestion for when the water is low enough to get all the way up to the falls themselves.
We discovered there is a relatively easy climb up the right side. Once you use the rocks to cross the stream and then climb up to the larger rocks at the top you can use them to cross back over to the right side. From there make your way up auntie you are right at the falls. From here you can usually see the “rainbow” in the morning and also have a great platform to enjoy your lunch. Some brave climbers even go to the edge and add their rocks to the cairns along the edge. Just be careful! You can also climb up the left side and follow the river down for a bit to get some very different views of the falls and lower falls.
Taking Children
Most kids on this hike are running past the adults even though they should be tired!
