Overview

This is a difficult one way trail to Little Jimmy Spring in San Gabriel Mountains National Monument.

This trail goes by Deer Spring and Little Jimmy and can be used to access Mount Islip

The Spring is now piped and marked for easy access. The Spring flows years round and is a great source for refills. Please consider treating before drinking.

Getting Started

You'll need to park in the large open lot just passed the Crystal Lake Visitor Center below the Deer Flats Campground. An Adventure Pass is required for parking and can be purchased at the visitor center for 5 dollars.
Please do not park in the campground if you do not intend on staying overnight.

The trail head can be found to the hikers left of the bathrooms.

Taking Children

The first half of this trail is suitable for young hikers (10 out of 10) while the second half being the steepest with considerable drop offs being rated at a (3 out of 10)


This is an alternate route for Mount Islip Loop via Islip Wawona Trail.

    This has been the traditional route to access Mt Islip for years. It is more direct and offers impressive front country views of the San Gabriel's. It's steep and to the point and its something I've always appreciated.
