Enjoy this 6.1-km point-to-point trail near Zermatt, Valais. Generally considered a challenging route. This is a very popular area for birding and hiking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are June through September. You'll need to leave pups at home — dogs aren't allowed on this trail. This unforgettable scenic trail in a pristine alpine landscape leads from the Trockener Steg (2930m) to the Schwarzsee (2577m), with fantastic close views of the majestic Matterhorn all along the way and the purest mountain air. The Matterhorn Glacier Trail is a path that clearly displays what the melting glacier leaves behind. There are several information points on the history of this place. Since the Little Ice Age around 1850, the Furgg and Theodul Glaciers have retreated by more than 3km.
