Medicine Bow Peak Loop
Overview
This is a moderate to difficult loop trail to Medicine Bow Peak in Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest.
This trail goes by Lookout Lake, Mirror Lake Picnic Area, and Lake Marie.
The hike is scenic the entire way and gives great views of the lakes, rock features, and surrounding area. There can be snow late into the summer season which can make parts of the trail difficult to navigate, but overall there are good markers and cairns. Be warned there is an old fence line that is made of timbers that can be mistaken as trail markers, so follow the cairns and the signs.
It's a popular hike and storms are common in the area, so the earlier the start the better. Be prepared to deal with crowds at the bottom trail because of all the different recreation in the area, multiple trail heads, and accessibility.
Getting Started
There is a bunch of parking for this area because it is so scenic. Being that it is right off the road you cannot miss the area, I suggest parking at the last lot (Marie Trailhead) because you can avoid a lot of people at get right on the trail assuming you're completing it clockwise.
Taking Children
Good hike for children if they can handle the distance/time. There are some large 'steps' and the boulder field may be difficult for some smaller children. 8/10
