Holly Ruins
I found this to be a very enjoyable hike. The trail is a gentle up and down for the most part, dirt or sand most of the way. I left right from camp and funny enough, that proved to be the most challenging part! The campground is on the canyon rim so the hike starts by dropping into the canyon; this happens over & through rock. It's marked by cairns, as is most of the trail, but I missed something. I was standing on top of a boulder over a deep, narrow crack between that and the next boulder, trying to figure out where the trail went. Imagine my surprise when I realized that crack WAS the trail! Smooth sailing after that. There were some interesting formations along the way and a small rock pile that was a building long ago. There is a petroglyph panel at the Holly ruin site but it's kind of hard to see so no picture. There is ample shade for resting but the trail itself is mostly exposed so plan accordingly!
