Black-capped Vireo Trail(edit)

Overview

This is an easy one-way trail in Dinosaur Valley State Park. Although it can get hot outside, there is a good amount of tree coverage. This is a very busy and crowded park, especially on the weekends. However, there are a ton of trails, and they are never overcrowded. Most of the people that come to the park hang out in the river, so that area can get crowded on the weekends. There are trees galore-juniper, live oak, elm, and many more. The park is known for having dinosaur tracks, hanging out in the Paluxy River, and over 20 miles of trails to hike. Be sure to listen for the waterfall near Wildcat Hollow if there was recent rainfall!

Getting Started

There are a few options for getting to the trailhead-both include a water crossing. From the west day use parking lot, you will cross the Paluxy using the Cedar Brake Outer Loop and then take the Limestone Ledge trail to the Overlook Trail. From the parking lot on the east side of the park, you will take the Cedar Brake Outer Loop and then the Denio Trail briefly. There are fees for camping and day use. Taking Children

Children would have fun on this hike, especially the water crossing to get you to this trail. Just be sure to bring plenty of water! Also, be mindful of poison ivy. There are benches and rest spots along the way if you need a break. Overall 8/10 for children.
