Overview

Gorgeous trail that spends substantial time moving up the middle fork canyon. You'll have countless river crossings, so wear shoes and socks that function well when wet. Don't expect to find water out of the canyons during the dry season (summer) so be ready to carry at least 3 quarts of water when leaving the river.

This is a moderate loop trail in Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument.

This trail goes by Jordan Hot Springs, Upper Scorpion Campground, and Lower Scorpion Campground.

Taking Children

Climbing up and down out of the canyon can be a real challenge. The river crossings aren't dangerous, and would be a lot of fun for kids that are comfortable with water.

Perfect weather last week. Warm water. We swam and played in the river for hours each day. Unfortunately zero water in the tanks up top, (Grave Tank specifically) so we had to extend our hike one day to get back down to the river.
