Alligator Back Overlook Loop via Flat Rock Ridge Trail(edit)

Overview

This is a moderate loop trail to Alligator Back Overlook in Blue Ridge Parkway.

This trail goes by Basin Cove Campground, Brooks Knob, Alligator Back, Bluff Mountain, Flat Rock Knob, and Bell Knob.

Getting Started

If I'm hiking this loop, I would prefer the clockwise route. It's challenging, but isn't as intense as flipping anti--clockwise and tackling the Blue Ridge Primitive Trail on the incline.

The Flat Rock Ridge Trail is moderate and offers some good views.

You could also start this loop at the parking at the bottom of the Grassy Gap Fire Road & Long Bottom Road.

Taking Children

It's a long, difficult trail. Don't bring an animal or kid who you think you might end up carrying.
