Sluiskin Falls via Skyline Trail
Overview
This is a very popular trail for hiking and running, so expect to see other visitors along the way. The best time to explore is from June through September. Please note: dogs are not allowed on this trail.
The Skyline Trail is the most iconic route departing from Paradise on the southern side of Mount Rainier. This scenic loop offers a bit of everything—lush meadows, waterfalls, river crossings, panoramic views, and stunning glacier vistas.
This “choose your own adventure” hike can be done in either direction, though most hikers prefer the clockwise loop. For a shorter option, many stop at Panorama Point before retracing their steps. Along the western portion of the loop, a short spur trail leads to Glacier Vista, offering up-close views of the Nisqually Glacier.
All routes begin at the Jackson Visitor Center, where you’ll find restrooms, food options, and educational displays. In winter (October–May), this trail is snow-covered and requires proper gear, including traction devices, snowshoes, and trekking poles. Winter hiking should only be attempted by those with experience in snowy, icy mountain conditions.
