Niederhofer Lake Loop via Four Notch Loop Trail and Lone Star Hiking Trail
Overview
This is a moderately dificult loop trail in Sam Houston National Forest. The primary difficulty is the water crossings. Boswell Creek can be filled after a heavy rain and may be impassable. The loop can be done in either direction but the typical travel for hikers is to head east on the Lone Star Hiking Trail four miles then take the Four Notch Loop Trail. This makes a counter-clockwise loop.
There are opportunities for taking offshoots to visit Niederhoffer Lake or Hidden Lake.
Getting Started
There is plenty of parking at the Four Noch Hunters camp. The hike starts at the trailhead kiosk.
Taking Children
The hike can be made by any child capable of walking the distance. The benefit for children is the well marked path that will give them an opportunity to lead the hike.
