Overview

This is a moderate out and back trail in McDowell Sonoran Preserve.

Getting Started

The Sunrise Peak Trail begins at the Sunrise Trailhead in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. This is a popular trail with limited parking at the trailhead, but there is an overflow lot down the road. The trail is in a neighborhood but you will quickly leave the view of the houses as you climb up toward the peak. The trail is very steep and rocky but well marked. The surrounding desert is beautiful and you will get some great views of the granite rocks and cactus as you continue up trail. There are a few places to stop off along the trail to take in the views of the city and the surrounding mountains. Once you are on the peak you can take a break, sit on the large boulders at the top and enjoy the views.
