Surprise Canyon Trail(edit)

Overview

This is a moderate out and back trail in Capitol Reef National Park.

Getting Started

Access the well marked trailhead via Burr Trail Road which is washboarded but typically passable by any high clearance vehicle (hint - a Capital Reef entrance fee is not required to access this area of the park). Start by hiking across a short sandy meadow to enter the Waterpocket Fold via a beautiful canyon with steep walls on both sides.

Taking Children

Children would enjoy climbing on the rocks and seeing the tall canyon walls but would need help over some portions. Summer heat would likely be too much for the family.
