Track (9/10/20, 9:19:26AM) Numa Ridge Lookout
Netta, Katie and I met in Columbia Falls at 7:30am at the PO. (I had picked Netta up at 7:00am.) I drove us to Bowman Lake and what a drive it was. The roads (parts of the N Fork road and all of the Bowman Lake road) were beyond horrible and the dust was thick. But, the day was beautiful and warm. Nary a cloud in the very blue sky. The trail was in good condition with much of the more extreme ascent in the last few miles. Karen was the older lady manning the lookout. We visited with her, asked questions, and ate our lunch. We ran into a yearling black bear eating huckleberries on our way back down. Katie had gone into the bushes to pee when she heard rustling and looked right at a bear that was very close to her. She came quickly out of the bushes. It took us several minutes before we went to pass by. We made lots of noise but bear just kept eating. Where was Mom?? We never saw her. Great day in the woods. Bowman Lake is eight miles long.
