Observation Tower Loop via Slocum Avenue
Overview
This is a moderate loop trail to Observation Tower in Gettysburg National Military Park.
This trail goes by Cemetery Hill and Culps Hill.
This is probably the premiere Civil War battlefield to hike. There is so much history it practically comes to life as you explore the remains of various buildings, charge across the field like the soldiers did during Pickett's Charge, and even climb to the top of the observation tower. The hike can easily be lengthened or shortened depending on your interests and needs.
Getting Started
Hike from the visitor center. Trail heads are well marked.
Taking Children
Great hike for children. 8/10. They will love the remains of buildings and climbing the observation tower. Take the time to discuss the battle with them before you go so they will appreciate everything they are seeing.
