Crown Mountain(edit)

Overview

This is a difficult out and back trail to Crown Mountain in Lynn Headwaters Regional Park. It is highly recommended to fill out the hikers registry found at the trailhead. If you do run into any issues, it's much better having people know where to find you.
Some caution is needed despite the trail being well marked. There are several areas where people can lose the trail leading up to Crown mountain and instead find themselves heading to Dam mountain or Goat mountain. Familiarize yourself with the expected turns before heading out. This is an alpine setting and clouds can move in quickly. There is a somewhat exposed 3rd class traverse at around 1300 meters near the final approach to the summit of Crown. Take care and move slowly and this section should prove to pose no problems. The summit itself is airy and exposed with high consequence falls on either side. It's a good place to be cautious, but has exceptional views and makes for a fantastic day out. Steep and varied terrain, including boulder fields, roots, mud, chains, granite traverses ensures a lively experience.

** This hike can be connected to the prominent Camel, however The Camel is a 5th class climb and even the approach from Crown requires some very careful maneuvering and ideally will involve a rope and harnesses.

Getting Started

Taking advantage of the tram up will save about an hour on the trip, as well as one's legs. Parking is paid, and abundant. If you forego the tram, then the hike starts with the properly named Grouse Grind.

Taking Children

This is not an appropriate hike for children under eight. This is a 1 out of 10, long, steep, tricky footing, with plenty of high consequence fall zones, unless your child is exceptionally precocious and fit, I would hesitate before bringing them along.
