Panthertown Loop
Overview
This popular hike provides visitors with a good overview of Panthertown, a notable backcountry area within the Nantahala National Forest. It features Little Green Mountain (with spectacular views), Schoolhouse Falls, Macs Falls, Greenland Creek Falls, and Granny Burrell Falls before looping back to the parking area.
The trails are not well blazed once you leave the trailheads. There are trail markers at spots, but they are few and far between. Hikers should be prepared in advance with downloaded maps and/or printed maps.
Getting Started
From NC 107 in Lake Glenville, NC follow Cedar Creek Road to its intersection with Breedlove Road. Turn left on Breedlove Road and follow it to the parking area where the road ends at Salt Rock Gap. Depending on the current condition of the road a high clearance vehicle may be needed for the last mile or so.
Taking Children
The hike is appropriate for older children. Use caution around the waterfalls and on the cliffs of Little Green Mountain.
