Hibriten Mountain Trail CLOSED to the Public
Overview
This is a moderate out and back trail, 5.7 miles round trip, in North Carolina that follows a service road up to a hang glider launch site and overlook. Please read and adhere to all posted rules, some of which are stated below.
Getting Started
This trail has a small parking area (maybe 10 spaces) just before you start your climb. Parking lot is on the right at the End of State Maintenance. Do Not drive past the lot or turn around in private driveways. The trail winds through all private properties. Stay on trail, dogs are highly discouraged, but must be on leash and picked up after. Absolutely NO unauthorized motorized vehicles authorized past the parking area. This trail and parking lot are strictly Day Use Only! Violators will be charged with trespassing and cars will be towed from the lot during hours of darkness. ALL rules are clearly posted. You will have to go around, to the left, a service access gate about 1,000 feet up the trail. The entire trail is gravel and wide enough to allow for service vehicles to access the top. The hike begins with a pretty steady uphill and continues that gradual climb the entire length. There are a few places where it levels off, but mostly it is up the entire way. Once you make it to the top, there are a few service buildings you can go around and the trail ends with a hang glider wooden launch site. If you are lucky, you may see some taking off! The launch area can be used for just sitting and enjoying the view as you can see a good ways in 180 degree direction. Please take out all trash while on the trail, so others may enjoy. No smoking or camping is allowed on the trail. No restroom facilities available.
Taking Children
Children can easily do this trail but it is uphill the entire way and it is a fairly long hike, 5.19 miles there and back to the parking area.
