Red Mountain via Old Commonwealth Trail, Ski Tour
This is a moderate out and back trail to Red Mountain in Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest.
Notes for ski touring: From 4,000' the trail ascends up a forested ridge-line with moderately spaced trees. The west face of Red Mountain from 4,800' to the summit is pretty consistently between 40 degrees and 45 degrees. With good snow and low avalanche hazard, this face is a delightful wide open run. At the summit, the ridge to the northeast drops off steeply and may be corniced. The drop off to the south of the summit is much less steep.
