Missouri Lakes Loop(edit)

Overview

This is a difficult loop trail to Missouri Lakes in Holy Cross Wilderness Area.

This trail goes by Fancy Lake and Missouri Lakes.

This is the nicest, easiest loop hike in the area. It's about 2700 vertical and less than 10 miles for the loop. Best to do this counter clockwise, up the steeper Fancy Lake side and down the less steep Missouri Lake side. There is usually snow on the east side of each pass. Mid to late July expect to see plenty of flowers. There are some old mining ruins on the west side of Missouri pass. This is a local's favorite hike with alpine lakes, creeks, falls and beautiful rocky crags.

Getting Started

Homestake road is an easy dirt road that most regular passenger cars will have no problem driving. There are just a few rougher patches.

Taking Children

The trail is suitable for hardy hiking kids who can tackle a 10 mile hike.
