Overview

This is a moderate out and back trail in Santa Susana State Historic Park.

Getting Started

This area is hot and has very little shade so carry plenty of water.

The entrance is a dirt parking lot on Lilac Lane on the east side about one quarter mile south of Santa Susana Pass Road. There is a restroom at the trail head. It will be useful to have a copy of the park map: https://www.parks.ca.gov/pages/611/files/SantaSusanaPassSHPWeb2016.pdf as the open street map doesn't list the trail names very well.

From the trail head you'll veer right and head down the hill. You'll actually be walking on uneven rock part of the way which is somewhat difficult. It is hard to imagine that a stagecoach went up and down this, it must have been a miserable and dangerous part of the ride. Keep an eye out for a white plaque/monument embedded in the rock on the right had side commemorating the road. Once you get to the bottom area of the park there are many intersecting trails. The trail listed here attempts to be as faithful to the park map as possible and stay on the open street map trails, but towards the end it would probably be best to just follow the trail signs or your best judgement.

You'll end up at a trail head on Andora Avenue just south of Lassen Street and Valley Circle Bl if you want to make it a one way car shuttle.

Taking Children

There are, potentially, snakes in the park and the climb back up is a little strenuous. Hiking on the rock part of the trail is strenuous because it's so uneven, but it might be the kid of experience an adventurous kid would like. The only restroom is at the Lilac entrance.
