Overview

This is a moderate loop trail to U Mound in Cibola National Forest – Sandia Ranger District.

There is a network of trails in this area and many slightly different ways to get where you're going. The main trails are mostly well marked, but expect that you'll take some wrong turns and need to backtrack your first time through.

Getting Started

There is a parking lot at the end of Indian School. From the gate, walk about fifty feet and turn right to head up the hill.

Taking Children

Great hike for kids. There's a lot of ups and downs that will wear them out, but will also keep them curious about what's around the next corner. Be aware of cyclists and runners and have a great time.

I love this trail! I run it weekly. It has such a fun roller-coaster feel when I can maintain a good pace. I go mid-morning on weekdays and never see crowds. The marked route here doesn't go up U-Mound, though I recommend that you should. It's a great thigh-burner mid run!
