Boundary Peak Loop via Algonquin Trail(edit)

Wright- #17- 4,580' Algonquin- #18- 5,114' Iroquois- #19- 4,840' 3.20 hr to Alg, including Wright Spectacular trip. The scenery along this ridge line is top notch. Wright was pretty easy right until the last 0.4 mi. Fun scramble up beautiful slabs with views to die for. Alpine terrain, lovely dear's hair sedge clumps, and a killer view of Algonquin. The ascent up Algonquin was tough but not too bad. Again, tons of slabs but with good footing to negotiate. Great workout. Stellar views, windy, and chilly. The ascent of Boundary and Iroquois was a pain in the ass. Lots of widow makers, a confined trail, brushy, but easy with a few interesting scrambles. Beautiful views from both summits. The descent down to Lake Colden was horrible. You follow a drainage choked with boulders the whole way down. Probably the worst descent as of yet. But the scenery through Avalanche Pass and at Avalanche Lake was incredible. You really feel like you're away from it all. Probably the most unique piece of scenery in the High Peaks. Trap Dike, Colden, the inky waters of the lake, the matilda's. Gorgeous. Tiring getting through the pass. Lots of small up and downs, climbing up, over , and under large boulders. Phenomenal place to swim. Water was in the lower 60s. Weather: 48 F/5:30 a.m, 2300', ADK Lodge 56 F summit of Wright 59 F summit of Algonquin 9:00 a.m, 20 mph gusts? Sunny, blue skies all day Mountain Sandwort still in bloom in some places, bunchberry, mountain ash berries. Sun was blazing from Boundary down to Avalanche Lake, 74 F, 2,900' 80 F back in Keene Fall foliage was week :(

Start at Adk Loj. Setup tent at Marcy Dam. Sleep. Wake up, hike through Avalanche Pass, up the back of Algonquin, bag Iroquious, Boundary, Algonquin, Wright, back to Marcy Dam for the gear, and then out to the Loj.
