Great hike. We did this in 3 days but its doable in 2. If you are doing this as a pair or group, its doable without ropes but it would be challenging to do some sections with a backpack solo without a rope. Trail is decently marked, and with a map you definitely can do it without a guide if you have some backpacking experience. Beautiful views at sunrise.
