Bird Ridge Trail(edit)

Overview

Easy to follow trail, 30 minutes south of Anchorage. People hike it all year (check avalanche danger before heading up in the winter). Popular training run for local mountain runners. Steep trail with a few stretches of easy rock scrambling. Some loose gravel on the way down. Beautiful views all along the trail. This trail stops at Pt 3505. If time and energy permit a beautiful ridge leads on from Pt 3505 to Bird Ridge Overlook and a variety of peaks. There are two parking areas for the hike. The smaller, original parking lot is the first one you see driving from Anchorage. The larger, newer lot is a short distance south along Turnagain Highway. The trails leading from both parking lots soon join up.
