Overview

We hiked up Nounou-East Trail out to the top of Sleeping Giant and then down the Kuamo'o trail. Fun way to see both trails - assuming someone in your group is willing to shuttle cars. the hike was 4.4 miles long with 1,140 feet of climbing. It's only a 9 minute drive between the two trail heads so very doable.

The top of the Kuamo'o trail is steep and slick if it's been muddy. The bottom part is easy walking. You pass thru many vegetation type changes. A beautiful stand of large Cook Island Pines, some fun bamboo and other impressive and interesting trees. We only ran into one other party on this trail vs lots of hikers on Nounou-East.

Getting Started

Park at the trailhead on Kuamo'o Road, hwy 580. Bonus stop for view of Opaekaa falls on the drive to or from the trailhead.
