I first walked the Pennine Way in 1985 when I was 17. The conditions that day were awful ... torrential rain, a quagmire peat bog and only 1 boot (the first became sole-less after the first mile). Fast-forward 34 years and I’ve repeated the walk. Great weather and views ... thanks to all the work done to protect against erosion the path is now 80% on slabbed path - hard work on the legs and knees but much better than pear bog. I can highly recommend this walk. Stayed at the Old House B&B in Torside ... very comfortable ... before heading on for day 2.
